We reported several weeks ago that Sting was told by WWE officials to get ready for this month’s SummerSlam pay-per-view and then plans they had for his return were nixed.

Sting reportedly got into “ridiculously good shape” for his age, suggesting he was set to compete in a match.

WWE seemly felt that the SummerSlam event was already heavily booked with The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar and actor Stephen Amell and it would be best to keep Sting back for later in the year when they need a hook for the WWE Network.

The Night of Champions event, which takes place in Texas in September could see a possible return for The Icon, considering he now lives in Texas, or they could hold of his return for the Survivor Series in November, which will be one year since his WWE debut.

It will be interesting to see how WWE intend to use Sting going forward.
