WWE announcer Michael Cole was written off television last night on Monday Night Raw, after taking an F5 from former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.

The story they are running with, according to WWE.com, is that Cole was rushed to a local hospital shortly after the attack “with a possible cervical fracture.”

The obvious oversight is that WWE’s fake injury is virtually identical to the very real cause of death of Mexican wrestler Perro Aguayo Jr., who passed away on March 21. Aguayo fractured his C-1, C-2 and C-3 vertebrae during a match with Rey Mysterio and two others.

It’s more than likely this was just a matter of oversight in the writer’s room. Still, it’s hard to believe that with the amount of people that comb over the Raw script – and especially given what market WWE is running this week – that nobody caught this before it made air.
