There was a major moment of shock when we witnessed a seemingly impromptu Charlotte Flair victory over WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Asuka this week on Smackdown Live.

The speculation is over.

Asuka will not be defending the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania this year. The way it looks, she may never defend a championship for the WWE again!

News broke earlier today via Dave Meltzer that this move was a decision by Vince McMahon to scrap Asuka’s WrestleMania Championship defense hours before Smackdown Live. The reported logic being: if the title isn’t being used, why not send it to Charlotte Flair to further stack the main event?

It sucks for Asuka. But is great for the WrestleMania 35 Main Event.

Charlotte is now the Smackdown Women’s Champion going into the first ever all-female WrestleMania Main Event against Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch.

Early reports are circulating that the match will not change, despite Charlotte now being Smackdown Women’s Champion.

But I think it should. I think this match needs to be altered, yet again. Stipulations are being thrown around…why not add one here?

This match needs to be WINNER TAKE ALL!

Both titles on the line. This is THE MAIN EVENT on a year where WWE is adding stipulations & twists to everything WrestleMania.

Look, I’ve seen the photo…

But I’m not sold that The Four Horsewomen standing tall as the show closes needs to be what really happens. Could be a cool visual, but we’ve seen it before.

I think the more memorable & impressive moment would be giving Becky Lynch her moment.

Let’s be real for a second here.

Becky Lynch has been absolutely on fire for over 6 months. While her “Road to WrestleMania” was full of strange debacles, like forced apologies, kayfabe injuries & suspensions, she has still had more buzz than any other WWE Superstar.

The vision of Becky Lynch holding both the red & the blue WWE Women’s Titles to close out the first Women’s WrestleMania Main Event is what needs to happen here.

WWE doesn’t need to unify the titles. Becky can just drop one the next night on Raw & a new champion could be crowned. This could be a way to rehabilitate Asuka by putting the title back on her…or WWE can find a way to crown a new champion & send the vacated championship into a different direction.

Also, in the world of MMA, “Champ-Champ” is something that every fighter wants to become. This is the goal for everyone. EVERYONE in MMA. It would work in WWE as well. Just have Becky Lynch drop the phrase “champ-champ” and she’ll continue to be over.

If WWE wanted, they could even allow Becky to defend BOTH titles! Why not? At this stage of the game, Becky needs to be tested. This is an opportunity to see if she will be able to persist as champion after WrestleMania. I think she will, but only time will tell.

And here’s another idea that you may like:

MAKE IT AN ELIMINATION MATCH!

This way there is a definitive winner of both championships instead of first fall wins. It will also ensure that Charlotte or Ronda aren’t “protected” in this match. Why protect anyone? This is the culmination of months of story. CULMINATE IT.

Even if it isn’t an elimination match like I’m requesting, I still believe that the cooler, more deserved moment for WrestleMania 35 is Becky Lynch standing tall with both championships.
