For the past several weeks, there has been speculation around Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wanting to come back to WWE and wrestle at WrestleMania 35 in April of 2019.

The speculation arose when Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated on his radio program that The Rock was interested in returning to WWE and competing in a match at the grandest stage of them all.

Here’s a quote from Meltzer:

“He wants to wrestle at WrestleMania. WWE wanted him last year. He was originally supposed to be in the Kurt Angle position. But he had filming stuff, if there’s a movie project, or something he has to film at that time or a week later, it makes it difficult because of the injury risk. If there’s a movie that he wants to do, he’s not gonna turn down a movie that he wants to do to do WrestleMania, that doesn’t make any sense. But if there’s no movie project on the table that he wants to do, and he wants to do WrestleMania, then I’m sure Vince isn’t gonna go, ‘hey, we don’t need you, we don’t want you.’ Especially trying to break into China, because The Rock’s movies are doing just giant business in China.”

At this time, there is no word on if this is going to actually happen, but it should be noted that both sides are interested. There has also been speculation that The Rock could go one-on-one with Roman Reigns in a last-stitch effort of getting him over as a babyface with a majority of the fan-base.

Again, this is simply speculation and nothing is official at this time.
