On the Monday night/Tuesday morning edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer spoke about the future of Lucha Underground going past season two.

The second season of Lucha Underground is scheduled to debut on the El Rey Network on Wednesday, January 27th, 2016. But during their “mailbag” segment, a fan asked if Dave could shed any light on the future of the “promotion.”

Dave apparently doesn’t feel too confident that LU will make it past two seasons, as he’s concerned about Lucha Underground’s lack of distribution to major markets. In the US, the only way to see the product is on the El Rey Network, which has a limited (at best) view base.

Meltzer also stated that LU failed to gain any major television deals with any Spanish speaking channels, but he did note that they landed a deal in Canada, but that channel too has a small viewer base. Meltzer stressed that for Lucha Underground, it has to become profitable this year. He said that it was unlikely, if the promotion doesn’t generate money, that the company will make it to season three.

Obviously, this is PURELY speculation on the part of Bryan, Dave and us. This is in no way confirmed. But we will continue to update you on this matter as the information becomes relevant.
