According to PWInsider.com, lead Monday Night Raw play-by-play announcer Michael Cole is reportedly seeking to have a full-time backstage role with WWE. It’s being said that Cole has been asked to take on more responsibilities backstage with production and mentoring young announcers, which will eventually lead to him being completely removed from the commentary table.

Nothing has been set in stone, but it’s being talked about that Cole will slowly, over the next couple of years, lessen his role on television as the lead play-by-play guy on Raw. The company reportedly feels like they have several guys who can fill the role like Mauro Ranallo, Tom Phillips and others.

Cole has been with the company for over 20 years and has developed a good relationship with production director Kevin Dunn and obviously, Vince McMahon.
