According to reports from MMAFighting.com, UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum has pulled out of UFC 196 due to a back injury.

Werdum, the champion, was originally suppose to fight Cain Velasquez, who has also pulled out due to injury. A day after the announcement that Velasquez would be replaced by Stipe Miocic, Werdum said he will also pull out of the event with an injury.

So as for UFC 196 that is scheduled for February 6th, it will not have a World Championship fight and no main event, which is a big hit for the UFC, considering this event wasn’t selling well in the first place. Ariel Helwani on Twitter wrote that there was still a chance Werdum will fight as he’s going to see a doctor, but it’s not looking good.

Even odder, Werdum said he has been dealing with this injury for some time now, and planned on fighting through it if Cain was still in the fight. But once he dropped out, Werdum felt it would be the right thing for him to do the same.
