I’ve always been a fan of Dolph Ziggler. The up’s, the down’s. Through it all, this guy brings it EVERY…SINGLE…TIME.

The big rumor right now is that the booked Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz match at SummerSlam this year is simply a ‘bait & switch’ for a major surprise return to WWE by Goldberg.

Whether Goldberg makes a run-in and destroys Ziggler, leading to a win for The Miz…or The Miz is replaced by Goldberg, it’s a lose-lose situation for Dolph.

After a series of matches for the WWE Championship with Kofi Kingston, Ziggler has fallen into the role of a bitter, disgruntled WWE Superstar who is complaining about wrestler’s from the past. His jabs about the Raw Reunion are an ode to WWE creative ideas that have been retreaded time after time.

And it’s not Ziggler’s fault. His delivery on the microphone has been improving for years & I’m sure he’s doing whatever he can to make his programs in WWE as interesting as possible.

Dolph seems to always fall back into the dreaded “X-Pac” role…not to take anything away from Sean Waltman, who is a WWE Hall of Famer & one of the greatest cruiserweight wrestlers in history.

X-Pac was primarily used as a solid wrestler who would work with new WWE signees & report to the agents whether they could go or not. We’ve seen Dolph take on this role for countless debuting WWE Superstars over the past 5 years.

Could this be all Ziggler is worth anymore?

I don’t think so. He laid out Shawn Michaels a couple of weeks ago on Smackdown. Not everyone gets the opportunity to knock the bejesus out of HBK with his own finish. This should have been an epic moment in the career of Dolph Ziggler, leading to something huge ultimately in his favor.

But instead, it looks like it will be cannon fodder in the built to Ziggler attempting to make Goldberg look like a dominate monster in what could be his final WWE in-ring appearance.

After SummerSlam, what will be next for Dolph? I wouldn’t be shocked if he took another sabbatical from WWE to focus on outside projects. The guy is super talented & could contribute in any form of entertainment out there, especially comedically.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ziggler started his own podcast in the near future. Only time will tell.
