Tonight at NWA: Into The Fire, it was announced that the NWA TV Title will return to competition. Stu Bennett, the former Wade Barrett, announced that the title would be decided at the next pay-per-view event on January 24th, 2020.

The NWA TV Title has a vast lineage in the annals of professional wrestling. Whether the National Wrestling Alliance decides to acknowledge this lineage remains to be seen.

A wrestler by the name of Danny Miller defeated Ole Anderson in 1974 to become the first NWA Mid-Atlantic Television Champion. In 1977, while the championship was held by Baron Von Raschke, the championship was renamed to the NWA Television Championship.

In 1985, the belt began being referred to as the NWA World Television Championship during Dusty Rhodes’ reign. In 1991 while Arn Anderson was the champion, the title was switched to the WCW World Television Championship.

Many noteworthy, main-event level wrestlers held the title. But ultimately, it was vanquished by the Vince Russo & Eric Bischoff era in April of 2000 and never made a return. The final acknowledged champion was Hacksaw Jim Duggan. He found the championship in a dumpster when he was working a janitorial gimmick. It ended up in the trash during a mock basketball game between Kevin Nash & Scott Hall.
