The New Day ‘Problem’

PWP Nation’s John “JCD” Dimiceli examines the possible “problem” that could face the New Day.

They are the most refreshing act in the WWE in a long long time. They are your current and 2-time WWE Tag Team Champions. They were 3 guys with no real direction, who were given garbage and turned it into gold. So with that said, “Ohhhhh, PWP Nation don’t you dare be sour, clap for your world famous 2-time tag team champs and feel the powerrrrrr! It’s The New Day, yes it is!”

Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E have been together for a little over a year and a half, collectively known as The New Day. They came together on Raw originally in the summer of 2014. It appeared they were going to be three guys who were angry about being held back. Rumors swirled that the group would be a new version of the Nation of Domination, however vignettes started to air that made the trio appear to be positive smiling baby faces.

In November of 2014, the trio would debut as smiling, skipping, clapping baby faces who were motivated by staying positive. Needless to say, the fan reactions were anything but positive. Their slogan of “New Day Rocks” was returned by fans with “New Day Sucks.”

New Day two

Shortly after WrestleMania the group was turned heel, and that’s when they took off.

At Extreme Rules, the trio captured their first tag team championship by defeating the team of Cesaro & Tyson Kidd. A win on Raw in May over Randy Orton & Roman Reigns showed that the duo were going to be different. With a 2 out of 3 walls win over Cesaro & Kidd, and retaining inside the Elimination Chamber, the group would finally drop the titles to the Prime Time Players at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view in July. It would be a short lived absence from the titles, as the trio would regain the titles at SummerSlam.

The night after SummerSlam, after defeating the Lucha Dragons, New Day would be confronted by the returning Dudley Boys. After holding off the PTP, New Day would eventually hold off the Dudleys as well. Shortly after holding off the Dudleys, the Usos would return and set their sights on the gold. To date, New Day has held off the challenge of the Usos as well. They have main evented & been left standing on their fair share of Raws and Smackdowns which is a testament to where they have been able to take the group.

So with the Prime Time Players, Dudleys, Usos, all defeated and the Lucha Dragons, and Kidd & Cesaro disbanded due to injuries, the question is what’s next/left for the New Day? Could they turn face? They have gotten over as heels to the point where the crowds love them. A face turn could open them up to feud with teams like The Ascension, League of Nations and the Wyatt Family.

Another option is to break them up. I don’t see this happening at all. The whole is greater than the individual parts.

To me, I think the most likely option is some new make shift teams start challenging them. It appears that R-Truth & Goldust are going to pair up as a comedy team, and those teams usually get put into a tag title feud. Maybe a few other teams will be plugged together as well.

The final option is calling up a team or two from NXT. It appears Enzo Amore & Big Cass could be main roster bound. A feud between the two teams would be fun and entertaining. The mic work alone between Woods and Enzo would be amazing.

Other than that, New Day has literally done it all.

Thanks for reading, everyone.
