Report: WWE Blocks Ring of Honor from Madison Square Garden Show in 2019

As first reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, Ring Of Honor will NOT be debuting in Madison Square Garden at ANY time in 2019.

It was recently reported that ROH had a date on hold after being contacted by MSG officials about running an event there. It was reported that MSG had done this after feeling jilted about being left out of any of the initial plans for Wrestlemania 35 week next year and have noticed WWE’s use of the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY increasing.

In in a statement to Johnson, ROH CEO Joe Koff states the following:

We had a deal with the Garden and they then told us they were backing out after communications from the WWE.  We are not able to get any other dates in any kind of discussion.  I’m expecting that our lawyers will be contacting all the parties involved and the best we can hope is that we can find a resolution, so we can bring the kind of energy and excitement that ROH and our partner New Japan to a bigger audience and to bigger arenas and to the fans of New York City.”

How does this happen?

For those unaware, WWE and the Garden for decades have had a deal in place that allows WWE first refusal on any date associated with wrestling. All WWE did here was exercise an option they always had.

Author’s Note: If anything MSG is to blame here. They got jaded and tried to “show” WWE and it blew up in their faces. Why call another company when you know WWE can say NO? I would also expect the reported AAA date for September to be blocked soon if it hasn’t already.
