Report: Update on Chris Jericho’s Status with New Japan Pro Wrestling

After losing the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 13, in his post-match press conference, Chris Jericho stated that he was far from done in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, New Japan Pro-Wrestling is very interested in keeping Chris Jericho and are hopeful to re-sign him in the coming weeks.

Meltzer also notes that Jericho is very happy in NJPW and wants to stay.

Meltzer states that Jericho’s contract ended after Wrestle Kingdom 13. New Japan officials are reportedly looking to book a Jericho vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi match in 2019.

It’s well known before even stepping foot in NJPW, Jericho’s reasoning for coming to the company in the first place was to work with, as he put it, the “big four” (Kenny Omega, Tetusya Naito, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi). If you’re keeping score at home, he has worked with two and has two remaining.

Also, it should be noted that there have been rumors circulating that Jericho could be involved in the new promotion All Elite Wrestling.

Rumors began when Jericho was seen with Jacksonville Jaguars ownership and seen thanking them for seats to a recent NFL game.

At this time, there is no clear indication what Jericho will do.
