This past week on Monday Night RAW, Finn Balor won a fatal 4-way match to replace Braun Strowman at the Royal Rumble and is now going on to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship this Sunday.

In the match, Balor pinned John Cena, which included Baron Corbin and Drew McIntyre.

After the match, Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated provided an update on this match, stating that John Cena offered to be the one to take the pin in this match in an effort to put Balor over and elevate him as a bigger star.

Here’s his quote:

“Although the timing is suspicious, sources close to WWE stated there was no connection between Cena taking the loss and his recent decision to withdraw from the controversial ‘Crown Jewel’ show in Saudi Arabia this past November. In fact, I was told Cena offered to take the fall in an effort to make Balor an even bigger star.”

There was speculation that Cena took the pin as a form of punishment for pulling out of the Crown Jewel special event in 2018, but Barrasso denies that is the case.
