On Monday Night Raw, we had the pleasure of witnessing the return of the man known as Goldberg to the squared circle. This was the first appearance by Bill Goldberg in a WWE ring in more than 12 years.

Bill Goldberg’s pop on Monday was truly awesome and befitting for a legend and future WWE Hall of Famer. As he walked to the ring to his old WCW theme song, with the fans chanting “Goldberggggg! Goldberggggg!” I couldn’t help but have a flashback to the time that Bill Goldberg defeated Hulk Hogan in July 1998 to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. After that match, chants of Goldberg echoed throughout the arena until the end of that historic Nitro episode.

Goldberg appeared on Raw to answer a challenge that was laid by Brock Lesnar’s right-hand man Paul Heyman. Paul Heyman’s challenge was sparked by Goldberg’s appearance on ESPN with former WWE alum Jonathan Coachman. When Goldberg was asked who he would face if he ever decided to get in the squared circle again, Goldberg’s answer was Brock Lesnar. This led Paul Heyman to call Goldberg’s bluff. He issued a challenge on behalf of Brock Lesnar.

As a source of motivation for Lesnar, he even referenced Lesnar’s loss to Goldberg at Wrestlemania 20 as “the one blemish.” Consider Goldberg’s appearance on Monday Night Raw his ultimate rebuttal to Paul Heyman’s challenge.

It was interesting to see how Goldberg has embraced his role of WWE Ambassador due to the promotion of WWE 2K17. One would never expect to see Goldberg lift and kiss young children in the crowd prior to as well as after his promo. Goldberg even gave a shout out to his wife and son for witnessing him in the ring for his first time.

Then Goldberg proceeded to cut a passionate promo that appealed to wrestling fans of the old and new era. Goldberg ended his promo by declaring to Brock Lesnar: “You’re last!” This was a clear message to all that this match is truly his last hurrah.

One can expect WWE to have Goldberg pop up every 2-3 weeks in order to keep the feud going until the watch’s PPV date is set. Don’t expect Lesnar and Goldberg to be in the same ring unless there is a contract signing of some sort. Once both individuals have signed on the dotted line, one can expect Goldberg to deliver one of his last spears in order to send a message to Lesnar.
