As we reported earlier this week, former WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James is set to return to the company at NXT Takeover: Toronto to face off against the undefeated NXT Women’s Champion Asuka. All though many are excited for James’ return, others are wondering what he future is with the company.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this booking for James at this time is only a one-off appearance. The report did note that it’s possible Mickie James could be added to the NXT or WWE main roster full or part time. Also, there’s a rumor floating around that she has been offered a coaching job at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Obviously this story is still developing and we’ll have to wait until after NXT Takeover: Toronto to see if James is brought back to the company in the future.

Additionally, there’s another rumor making the rounds that the original plans for Asuka at this Takeover event was for her to face former WWE Women’s Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. Those plans fell through after Stratus announced she was pregnant with her second child. When it was known that Stratus was out, WWE reached out to several other women outside of the company, but landed a deal with James.

With this signing, some are wondering if the powers that be in Full Sail are planning for Asuka to run through past Women’s Champions like Mickie James as a storyline for the next few months and into next year. Many believe the end game is for Ember Moon to eventually take the title off of Asuka, but that is just speculation.
