On the night of WrestleMania, WWE announced that the term “diva” would be retired. It would be replaced with a new championship and re-branded the Woman’s Division. On that night, Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks would compete in a Triple Threat Match for the new WWE Women’s Championship.

On this night, after what might have been the greatest women’s match in WWE history, Charlotte with the help of her father Ric Flair, was victorious. She was the last Diva’s champion, and the first Woman’s Champion. This is where the controversy starts. There is definitely weight in the argument that Sasha should have been crowned at that moment. She is by far the most over woman on the roster, it’s not even close. If you wanted a WrestleMania moment, that definitely would have been it.

The following night on Raw, during Charlotte’s coronation, she would begin a program with Natalya. Many people were surprised and disappointed that a one on one program between Charlotte and Sasha did not begin there. With one match between the two in the books, it appears that the feud is far from over. Meanwhile, Becky Lynch appears to be headed into a feud with Emma & Sasha seems to have no direction right now.

The debate over whether or not Sasha should replace Nattie is indeed an intriguing one. On one side you have those that feel that Sasha was done wrong at WrestleMania and needs to be crowned now. On the other side, it allows Charlotte to establish the new championship, it gives Nattie a meaningful storyline and allows Sasha to be crowned on the 2nd biggest stage at SummerSlam. I tend to lean toward the latter myself.

Remember, Charlotte ended the over 300 day record setting reign of Nikki Bella at Night of Champions back in September. She, despite the cries for Sasha, is the perfect woman to begin and establish the Woman’s Division and championship. Let her eventually win the feud against Nattie, dominate during the early summer and then go head on with Sasha. The key to this is to make Sasha look as dominant during the spring and summer as well. There are a few solid options for Sasha in Naomi, Paige and Emma to work against. The showdown at SummerSlam between these two will be hot. The crowd will be hot for it and you have to hope/assume the audience will be as well.

Let’s see how this all plays out. Sometimes patience is more important than instant gratification.
