Invasion from Planet Wrestletopia #2: The Revolution Will Be Televised…and It’ll Be on Pay-Per-View

by Anthony Curreri

Historically, issue number 2 of a new series is not as dynamic as the first.  This is unfortunate because sales on a second issue are what determine if a title gets picked up.  Fortunately for the folks at Suspicious Behavior Productions they have laid out a story that creates enough intrigue to keep us wanting more.  This story raises more questions about our protagonist Rory.  What is he going to do now that he’s out of the AWF?  How did he even get started in wrestling?  And finally, what’s he gonna do when Manifest Destiny runs wild on you?

In this installment we get a little more insight into Rory’s past.  We find out how he got interested in wrestling.  We also see where he is now.  Is he still cutting promos?  Sure, just not in a ring.  Will he be able to overcome the impending alien invasion?  Well… let’s hope so.

Our antagonist, Manifest Destiny is headed for earth. He’s angry about Rory claiming his title of intergalactic champion for himself.  He has issued a challenge, but it’s not one on one. It’s not a tag match.  It’s not a triple threat match. It’s his planet against our planet. One of the coolest things to see from this issue is several alien ships constructing a steel cage around the earth. The match is set and carnage ensues. The bodies are literally hitting the floor as wrestlers start raining down from the sky.  All over the world in every major city and at every seat of power there are wrestlers attacking. I laughed when I saw a squadron of luchadores just pile driving secret service.

As I mentioned earlier, we get a little taste of Rory’s originsthrough flashbacks.  In these flashbacks we are introduced to Rory’s father, Terry Landell: The Human Torture Rack.  We get the impression from the newspaper clippings adorning Rory’s room that Terry was something back in the day but now he’s washed up. He winds up leaving, but I sense a mystery here. Just where did he go? Was he able to kick start his career? Is he dead? Was he perhaps abducted by aliens and wound up on Wrestletopia? That would be something, wouldn’t it?

I personally can’t wait to see these questions answered. Also I can’t wait to see more wrestling.  There are just so many colorful characters raining down from the heavens laying the smack down.

Is there an intergalactic version of NWO, DX and the Four Horsemen? Does Manifest Destiny really run the show or does he have his own version of Vince McMahon?  Are all the wrestlers on Wrestletopia heels or are there baby faces too?  I for one can’t wait to see how this all shakes down.
