On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour w/ Ariel Helwani, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier revealed that he tore his groin while training for his UFC 206 main event against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.

Cormier hopes to return to UFC competition in the beginning of 2017, likely February or March, but it all depends on what type of healing treatment he undergoes. He has the choices from his doctor to rest the injury, get platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections or have surgery.

Surgery would be the quickest route, which could have him back training in about 8 weeks. Just resting a torn groin could take 5 months to heal up.

Cormier informed his doctor that he wants to get back into competition as quickly as possible.

“It’s a weird deal because I always try not to have surgery. That’s kind of my thing. I do whatever I can to not go under the knife. I’ve got some decisions to make.”

When Cormier does return to UFC, Anthony Johnson will be waiting for his title shot & Cormier is happy to oblige.
